The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Pipe Band are a competing Pipe Band who have many aspirations, which include: -

 

  1. Representing the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service by competing in all Major Pipe Band Championships and becoming a household name within the Pipe Band World by being promoted to the top grade.
  2. Representing the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service at local and national events, to raise the profile of both the service and the band.
  3. Provide a free safe environment where people young and old of all races and beliefs can learn a variety of instruments and ultimately become a competing member of the band.

The band have a strong lead team and professional approach, which in 2007 enabled the band promotion to a higher Grade within the rules of the Royal Pipe Band Association.  The bands achievements in 2007 include: -

 

            2nd Place at the European Pipe Band Championships – Inverness

            2nd Place at the World Pipe Band Championships – Glasgow Green

            1st Place at the Cowal Championships – Dunoon

 

These results were the most consistent of any band in the Grade enabling promotion at the end of the season.  These events are represented by 120 - 200 pipe bands from across the Globe.  200+ Bands were represented at the World Pipe Band Championships in 2007. This event itself was a major success, which was for the second year running broadcast on the BBC.
